I had brunch with a friend of mine today who wanted to interview me for an article she is writing. All I knew is she wanted to understand more about my ideas and experiences with my coach and the principles she teaches.
After more than 2 hours of me sharing many stories and life changing experiences I asked my friend what came up for her during this conversation as we reflected on what was discussed. Her answer moved me and has had me thinking about it all day. She was touched by my honesty and willingness to expose many personal things about my life. After a few teary comments she openly shared a very personal experience about her life. Her story and willingness to completely trust in me, sent a wave of gratitude and appreciation through my body.
We discussed the concept of honesty and authenticity and she summarized me as a personal who lives by, and embraces these values. I asked myself during the day if this is really true and for the most part it is. I am conscious about this and attempt to live an open and vulnerable life. Sometimes this doesn’t work and I share too much information, which can offend, and other times I dont share enough which can lead to miscommunications and misunderstandings.
I believe in an honest approach that doesn’t make others wrong, and equally as important not diminishing myself. Sharing experiences in an open non judgmental way allows for a depth of conversation that connects us on a very human level. We often have similar feelings about the experiences we have in life and when we share these stories in an honest, compassionate way we have the opportunity to go on an extraordinary journey together.
Sharing honestly is a gift we all have the ability to give. It allows us to release the past and create a new reality to live into. Try it
